Maybe it's the 12 years of tuba playing in me, but I love them low and deep. My favorite of all my didjs is a sweet Ab, also got it's twin from the same batch, another Ab. Got a nice A and a mediocre G. I just love those low rumbling vibrations and sliding around on the harmonics, the kind that you feel throughout your whole body.
I've had to come to terms that I'm not a percussive player by nature and never will be the guy busking on the street corner getting people dancing with a wicked fast rhythm - but I will be the one getting people blissed out with the brain massager and low didj!

Re: Who likes low didjs?
Mon, November 12, 2007 - 3:19 PMEven though I am a relatively new to the world of "didge" I kind of agree. Of my 2 didges, both PVC, one is I believe Eb and the other I honestly cannot tell. My stepson has a didgital(spelling:-) guitar tuner. Last night I used it for my didges and one was Eb, the other I could not get a reading for. It is lower then the Eb. I noticed that my vocals seem better in the lower pitch. I have a sorta lower voice and the Eb just does not sound as good.
The funny thing is, I have virtually no knowledge of music so I am probably completely wrong about the pitch of my didges. That is the great thing about didgeridoos, as long as it sounds good nothing else matters!!!!

Re: Who likes low didjs?
Mon, November 12, 2007 - 5:55 PMHey Tom.....good to hear from ya mate:-) No need for "wickedly fast" rhythms to get folks dancing...its more of what kind of rhythm and how its played that gets 'em moving...slow works just fine and its more the feel than the speed that counts.........voice of busking experience here;-) We can get feet dancing by playing a low A just as easily as the E's that we normally busk with.........but yes.....I love the low keys too, ever since hearing Jason Strazz play Mongoloid at the first JT fest.
We take my low A yucca (Jack Reeder) down to busk and we take folks into the split rocks you see behind us in our youtube video. Very resonant space and its part of why we choose that particular spot to busk in. When I start it up I can always hear a collective gasp, followed by everyone (myself include) experiencing goosebumps:-)
Too, I have that 9' long Low G Yucca from the late peter Spoeker...we used both the mentioned low keys on our latest CD and we plan on even more low key tunes on the next one.

Mon, November 12, 2007 - 9:24 PMHey Tom,
You know, I like 'em high and fast and I like 'em low and deep... and I love it when you play that low A flat, so sweet! Some of that stuff you played at the concerts in Portland, and that low jam you played with Jason Strazzabosco in the tipi at JT 2006 are still happily rumbling through my grey matter. Missed you this year! :-(
Another fave low didg of mine is Alan Tower's low G agave, Fat Boy. Also, Robbin Palmer's low E by Chad. Mmm... -

Re: Who likes low didjs?
Wed, November 14, 2007 - 10:26 PMYeah, those are fun, where they are so long that you actually can't play the fundamental because it's too low, you end up playing one of the toots, although it sounds like a normal drone because even the toot is so low. And then the toots above that are more closely spaced than usual.

Wed, March 19, 2008 - 6:31 AMOne of my favorites of all time is my Shockley Agave B.
It's the one I played on Mastika Kashlima on my CD.
BTW, that song is now being used on a film being made in Germany!
It'll be used in a bar scene.. They must have liked the low tones...

Mon, April 7, 2008 - 2:53 PMIt would be cool if at the JT ifg the crafters got together and try to make the largest and lowest handcrafted didge. It could make some funny photos!

Re: Who likes low didjs?
Mon, April 7, 2008 - 4:01 PMTo date , my entire quiver of stick's are imported from oz , and they range in every key , I have to say my favorite stick to date is the one I call my heavy B , I had purchased a few raw stock stick's (Mallee eucalyptus) just to have around to share with friend's etc. reworked em , and even painted a couple up , and I ran across my favorite stick , my heavy B. A stroke of luck I reckon , as believe it or not I have paid 10 time's the price and not got as strong of sound. When busking Ive often refered to this didge as my harley davidson of didge's,, low rumbling wicked vibrating stik. Alway's get's a laugh ...So i suppose you could say , I really Love a low tone Didge,, But im a sucker for any stick with loud booming vocal's ....
Cheer's all, Namaste'

I'm looking for another didj, but lower. Love those low deep vibrations! Eric has a didj that I just can't get enough of! It is so powerful, he said I can play it anytime I want. I'm really looking forward to reconnecting with that didj. Not sure the key tho...
Look forward to hearing more about this jam night. :)

Sky-high noise of rippin’ treble boyz scream the sound loud and proud through the hazy smoky cloud that both annoys and gives joys as it employs the particles in space it destroys…

Re: Who likes low didjs?
Sat, June 14, 2008 - 4:01 AMYou probably already know about this, but since you dig the 'deep' sounds, have you tried didjing in an acoustical place? I found one - and it's in my living room, right at the door and there is a closet there. I stand in front of the door and man it BOOMS. I have a few didges - one aussie aboriginal one - it's a Key C, and a few PVC ones I made. One is a Key F and they all sound so much deeper and richer when I stand by the door and play. I found this place by accident, coz I like to go outside on the porch and play, and I was buzzing my didj on the way out and the echoing in that place just blew me away! Found out checking the didj vids out on YouTube that the Aboriginals call a large big didj a 'Mago'. Check out some vids on there - they're interesting. Hope this helps. Harold -

Re: Who likes low didjs?
Mon, June 16, 2008 - 2:14 PMAh! that reminds me, I love playing my didge in stairwells where it can really echo around. it sounds huge. Another favorite of mine is to point it into the corner of a room where the ceiling and two walls come together. -

Re: Who likes low didjs?
Wed, June 18, 2008 - 6:10 AMYep, most homes have a few "sweet spots" to play in. Always good to go walkabout in your home while playing :-) Staircases, hallways, rooms with wood or tile floors, bathrooms (especially in the shower... without running water of course)
